World Responsible Tourism Day and Prize Draw
On 11 November we held an event to mark World Responsible Tourism Day. Kangaroo Valley Public School audited the carbon offset trees and presented their findings to our local Federal Member of Parliament, Mayor and local tourist operators, with WIN TV and the Illawarra Mercury in attendance.
As part of the event, guests who booked that day received one night free of charge and 20% of their booking cost went to our Charity Program. Lyall and Ally Cremin (pictured) took up the offer and enjoyed their honeymoon in Billabong Spa Cottage this week. Along with other bookings we raised $268 for the charity program.
In addition, we had a prize draw for previous guests who had offset their carbon. Congratulations to Michelle Hill who won a free night stay on her next visit, and Bruce Moffat has won a gift basket of our products.
Wholesome local is best! It's official!
We are thrilled to announce that we have just won the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism at the 2009 NSW Tourism Awards. Sustainable Tourism is all about promoting local culture whilst protecting the environment.
We ensure you have gorgeous wholesome treats, our own aromatherapy spa range using 100% natural essential oils, our free range eggs, local produce and fine local wines, and use only local tradesmen and services. We thank our guests for their outstanding efforts in recycling, reusing and energy saving while here. Thank you.

Chris and Sophie at the NSW Tourism Awards. Sophie’s dress was proudly made in Australia and bought from Luscious in Nowra – it was green and “green”. |
Joey’s Trail
We have a wonderful new tour for young families which lets the kids discover all the great attractions in Kangaroo Valley and invites them to do a special drawing of their trip. In return they receive a $20 gift voucher to spend at our enchanting Kangaroo Valley Woodcraft Store.
News on the Threatened Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby
As you know Crystal Creek Meadows has a Charity Program which donates funds to help our lovely Brush Tailed Rock Wallabies. There are only 200 in NSW and half of these live in Kangaroo Valley so it's important to build up their numbers.
Here is an image from the night camera (set up by NPWS) that reveals one of the females at this colony also has a pouch young. With an estimated of only five animals at this colony, the survival of each adult and young is essential. The potential for additional fox baiting around this colony is currently being examined.
Nibbler, the offspring of Roxy and Adam at another BTRW colony in the area, has survived its most vulnerable young months and we are hoping that he/she is getting to a big enough size to be able to take care of itself. Nibbler has been out of the pouch for 5 months now. He/she is no longer feeding from Roxy and is regularly turning up in photos from the on-site monitoring cameras in this colony. The other resident of this colony, Polly, a young female released in February this year, has claimed her own rock-pile and is growing into her full adult size. Her radio-collar could be removed over the next few months now she appears to have settled in.
We raise donations for this program by offering our business services free in return for a contribution to the donation box and we supplement this with our Charity Program.
We wish you a safe and Happy Christmas and New Year to all from Christopher, Sophie, Max, Samantha and Christie.
