Indulging the Senses: Road Trip - Kangaroo Valley
"Enjoying the lush countryside of Kangaroo Valley from your car is one thing. But when you see it with the wind in your hair and your hands at the steering wheel of a 1969 MGB convertible, it is quite another.
Crystal Creek Meadows, includes a two-hour loan of its silver MGB as part of its Celebration Indulgence package. The 4 ½ star bed and breakfast has two luxury one-bedroom cottages and two two-bedroom cottages suitable for families on its 6.4 hectare property.
Women receive a half-day beauty and relaxation treatment using Sothys Paris products. A beauty therapist runs the day spa, setting the scene with candles, aromatherapy and soothing music.
Guests are treated to a replenishing spa, body wrap, facial and massage, followed by a manicure and pedicure.
Men don't miss out on the special treatment. They can relax in a hydrating spa and enjoy an aromatherapy massage; the perfect way to prepare for a spin in the MG.
A Frank Sinatra cassette is poised in the player for company and several touring routes are clearly mapped out, complete with a short guide to the landscape, history, wildlife and flora along the way.
Kangaroo Valley is tiny but there are plenty of shops worth browsing through, selling almost everything from rocking horses to Balinese homewares.
The valley is known for its picturesque countryside and historic suspension bridge with its castle-like gates. And one of the best ways to see it is by taking a short drive to Upper Kangaroo Valley. It's a valley rimmed by rocky escarpments with myriad shades of green.
At the end of the road is Flat Rock, a large waterhole where the locals come to swim. It's popular with children, too, especially those who like catching tadpoles.
Canoeing the Kangaroo River is another way to absorb the peace and natural beauty. Although the river is mostly calm, navigating the odd section of whitewater adds to the sense of adventure. It takes about 2 ½ hours to paddle to the pick-up point where a bus awaits to return you to town.
Also available are bushwalk/mountain bike packages; you hike to the waterfall and ride a mountain bike back into town.
Crystal Creek Meadows' cottages are as peaceful as they are romantic. There is a wood-fired stove for chilly nights and they have been elegantly furnished. An afternoon tea of scones with jam and cream greets guests when they arrive and the cottages are stocked with such treats as handmade chocolates and a breakfast hamper."
