South Coast Beaches and Swimming

7 Mile Beach and the protected national park offer an outstanding example of natural coast line with the wide sweep of unspoiled gold sand and bush. Perfect for winter walks, summer sea fun and all year picnics. 7 Mile Beach is a 30 minute drive from Kangaroo Valley.

Jervis Bay boasts the whitest sands in the world (at Hyams Beach) but don't let that deceive you - there is much more to this huge natural bay than just sand. Rich in Aboriginal heritage it also holds important wetlands - including Lake Wollumboola - that preserve a flourishing diversity of plants and animals. It's great for bird watching, bush walking and swimming, with BBQ facilities at the National Park's Greenfield Beach.

For a genuine river swim try Kangaroo River at Hampden Bridge, children love the adventure. If you want a private escape, you can swim in several secluded spots in Kangaroo Valley.

The Kangaroo Valley swimming pool is open in the summer. The 25 metre pool offers a magnificent view over the valley and is a great place to cool down on a hot summer day. A shallow toddlers' pool is also provided.

Cricket at the historic Bradman Oval and Museum

District, national and international matches are played at the Bradman Oval, named after Australia's most famous cricketer Sir Donald Bradman. The ground hosts a fascinating museum devoted to Sir Donald's career and cricket's history. Surrounded by grassy slopes the oval is a magical venue to watch a match.

The history of the ground dates back to June 1823 when Governor Thomas Brisbane granted 2,400 acres to John Oxley, Surveyor General of the colony, explorer, author and businessman. Today the Bradman Oval has hosted one-day international matches to a capacity 5,000 crowd, cricket coaching camps, home games for the Highlands District Cricket Association and social matches. New South Wales versus Victoria and South Australia are scheduled for the new season (both ladies' and mens' games). If you love cricket then this venue and museum are wonderful muses.

Golf in Kangaroo Valley New South Wales

You can enjoy a truly gorgeous location to play golf at your pace while savouring Australia's most beautiful valley. Kangaroo Valley is blessed with one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in NSW - and just 6 minutes from Crystal Creek Meadows. The fairways of the Jack Newton designed par 72 championship 18-hole course offer breathtaking views of the valley while presenting testing terrain.

The back tees offer a test for seasoned golfers while the front tees are perfect for a more relaxed game. And all the while you are surrounded by the natural wild beauty of Morton National Park and spectacular valley vistas. All this without queues of players waiting to tee off. The only eyes watching will be the local kangaroos and beautiful bird life.

There is also a golf shop on the course should you need anything.

Canoeing along the Kangaroo River

There is canoeing and then there is adventure. Take a canoe from just 3km from your cottage. Paddle downstream towards the Dam and pass through wilderness and wildlife. You can go for a day and the hire company will bring you back or just hire the canoe and paddle with the kids for a while in the safety of the Hampden Bridge stretch of the Kangaroo River. Wear old shoes if you have them. Deliverance was never like this!

Horse Trekking around Kangaroo Valley

There are several horse riding stables in the district. Your host recommends two. The Man from Kangaroo Valley provides horse trekking for up to 2 hours. Leave the stables and climb up through the bush to the top of the escarpment. From there you feel on top of the world. A real treat for those who want to experience Aussie cowboy lifestyle. At Falls Creek you can go one to two hour rides and they accept children and novice riders (there are pony led rides).

Mountain Biking

Great mountain bikes are for hire in the valley. Take the "Cannonball Run" and let your adrenalin start pumping. There are many great tracks to take and advice is on hand.

Skydiving at Nowra on the South Coast of NSW

Believe it or not you just need 10 minutes training and you can then get set for the thrill of freefall (strapped to an instructor!) Skydive Nowra has a highly qualified and experienced staff of instructors to get you up up and away! To freefall on your own can be done after you have successfully completed the 11 hours of basic training (over Friday evening and Saturday morning) then you are ready for an experience you'll never forget, jumping with your own parachute from a plane at 10,000 feet! And best of all you are doing this over Kangaroo Valley - the most beautiful part of New South Wales.

River Cruises

The Shoalhaven River is both beautiful and unspoilt, offering tranquil views and opportunities to sight wildlife and birds. The river runs just the other side of Kangaroo Valley. Take the Shoalhaven river cruise and tuck into a lunch of fish and chips or afternoons dabble with a Devonshire Tea as you meander downstream (3 hour trip) to the coast and pass through Australia's first man made canal, or upstream through the Bangalee Reserve and Legge Island (2 1/2 hour trip). A lovely way to relax on our lazy river.
